Who Am I?
Can you guess what gemstone this is?The Mayans called me "the stone of the bird of paradise." Others have called me girasol, again a reference to my flaming reds and day-glo orange, while Mexico knows me as it's national stone. At my most brilliant - and valuable - I display an almost unrivaled play of dusky color, and am alone among my family in being regularly faceted although it is as a cabochon that I feel most worthy, often shining as the center stone in a pendant.
